If you take on more subjects, you need to allow more time! Most ordinary GCSEs require coursework. This is project or practical work, monitored by a teacher, assessed by a teacher, and the marks being submitted to the exam board as part of the overall assessment.

If you are not attending a college, this presents a problem. Whilst some distance learning colleges seek to overcome the difficulty by offering to mark coursework for a student, this is rarely a solution. Exam centres are usually schools and colleges and these like to set and assess their own coursework.

They are rarely keen to accept work marked and assessed by an unknown party. Hence, you may have marked coursework to offer but be unable to find an exam centre willing to accept it. IGCSEs bypass this problem by setting an extra hour-long paper.

This sets out problems for students to tackle on paper and counts instead of coursework. For students it avoids lengthy, time consuming projects and allows them to concentrate on the learning involved in the subject.

They may also need to research for themselves topics that are not covered by CIE. Please note that Environmental Management and Agriculture are not available as Edexcel subjects.

All our IGCSE courses contain a student file including tutor-marked assignments, study planner, recommended textbook s and a copy of the exam syllabus. No other books are needed. If, during a unit of study, you encounter any problems, these can always be noted down and included with your assignment.

Your tutor will then try to assist you with the query. The final assignment, a complete CIE mock exam, will allow you to assess your progress and decide at which level to enter the exam.

On completion of your course, further exam papers can be purchased from the school for additional practise.
